Emission cleaning
For the purification of air and emissions in industrial processes Gröninger uses for example so-called vapour scrubbers. For example the vapours released during tank cleaning can be collected and are absorbed by a stream of liquid (usually water). The absorption is enabled by intens contact of the contaminated air and the liquid. The solubility of the impurity that has to be absorbed is different for every component. Some waste steams contain many different components. That is why some vapour scrubbers have more than one cleaning step. In every step or phase another additive is used. Also active carbon filters are frequently used in emission cleaning.
