History

In 1947 our company was founded as Gröninger Shipping & Trading Company. In 2004 our name changed into Gröninger Cleaning Systems B.V., which better covers our activities. Though already 60! years old, we are still dynamic, creative an innovative. Building industrial high pressure cleaning systems is the drive that keeps us young! Though we rather talk about you, we will make use our anniversary to give you a high level impression of our history: 

  • 1947-1955

Father and son Gröninger start Gröninger Shipping & Trading. The company is active in trading and transport of minerals, slags, ore and other raw materials. The company has its offices in the centre of Rotterdam.

  • 1955-1965

The end of the fifties shows a shift towards technical trading. Gröninger trades in machinery for concrete and cement mills and agriculture, steam generators and heaters. Frank and Ralph Gröninger, the third generation, join the company. Frank concentrates on general management and financials tasks, Ralph is a born engineer. The latter starts implementing technological innovations on the equipment the company is trading in.

  • 1965-1975

One of the companies Gröninger is representing is the German Kärcher GmbH, by then still a relatively small company. Ralph spends two years in Germany working for Kärcher and is rapidly evolving into an industrial cleaning expert. In 1973 Gröninger moves offices to Schiedam and concentrates on cleaning equipment and solutions.

  • 1975-1985

High pressure machines evolve into consumer goods. The rapid development of this market makes Kärcher decide to open a wholly owned subsidiary in the Benelux. Gröninger is the exclusive professional dealer for the greater Rotterdam area, mainly active in the business-to-business market.

An increased demand for tailored cleaning solutions soars the other activities of Gröninger. The new division is called Mainpro. With this division Gröninger starts building its internationally renowned name in the area of industrial high pressure cleaning systems with product intended for tankcleaning, IBC/barrel cleaning, in-plant cleaning and specials cleaning systems.

 

  • 1985-1995

During this period the company doubles in size. The companies’ offering is further enhanced and professionalised. Gröninger is mainly active in de Benelux, although so now and then a project in other parts of Europe is done.

  • 1995-2003

Gröninger is the leading company in the Benelux on the area of tank cleaning solutions. More and more requests from other parts of Europe come in. Technical developments continue. Gröningers own modular concept is developed, resulting in the first Cleanpack ever. Gröninger is seen as a total supplier for tank cleaning solutions. Exports start to become very important, reaching up to 15-20% of total turnover.

  • 2004-now

Since both Frank and Ralph do not have natural successors, but do want continuity for their company, the search for succession is started. In April 2004 the company is sold to Henk Klein and Berthold Schaap. The name is changed into Gröninger Cleaning Systems and new directions are set building on the solid foundation.

Under the new management continuity, international expansion en technical innovation are key words. Rapidly the company is modernised. The new approach works. New projects are done throughout Europe, in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Italy and Russia. New innovative products, such as the Drypack and the Foampack see the light. Over 60% of turnover comes from outside the Benelux!

  • Future

Our activities and some faces may have changed, the basic underlying principles of our company are still the same. Integrity, service and quality will remain on top. With the joint strength of over 30 professionals and the combined strength of a number of professional partner companies we are ready to spread the Gröninger solutions throughout Europe in the upcoming 60 years!
